what the fuck (via)
THIS IS NOT OKAY. THIS IS NOT OKAY. THIS IS NOT OKAY.
No but that’s illegal.
That is actually illegal.
What the hell.
Hello friends, this is a violation of sections 959.06A and 959.131B of the Ohio state law. The former is a fourth-degree misdemeanor. The latter is a first-degree misdemeanor on the first offense and fifth-degree felony for each subsequent offense. This man shot a litter of kittens, not a single animal as the law is worded, so a case could be made for felony (or four). Either way, this is a crime. There is also the federal Animal Welfare Act which I’m not even going to get into.
According to the AVMA’s annual euthanasia panel, shooting an animal is only considered humane in emergency situations, as in if the animal presents immediate danger or is in too much pain to be moved. It also notes that the euthanasia must take place in a remote location. These kittens were healthy, in no pain, posing no threat to anybody, and were in the immediate vicinity of children.
And, this article has it wrong: Accorti is a humane officer, not a police officer. This is his job description, direct from the North Ridgeville, OH website: “The city employs two part time Humane Officers, who are responsible for enforcing the city and state laws governing the keeping, registration, vaccination, and sanitation of domestic animals.” He’s employed to enforce the state law, so he knew exactly what he was doing.
Please do not let this man walk away unpunished and with his job intact. Make noise. Get the attention of the higher-ups. Sign these petitions. Email or call any of these people: city mayor, district attorney, state attorney general, state senator, state representative, governor, US representative, US senators, or anybody else who has power over the police chief. You can do this even if you don’t live in Ohio.
The lives of five homeless kittens may not seem that important, but officers are not above the law. Barry Accorti could be charged with a felony for his actions if we can get the attention of the people with the authority to make this happen. Please, please, please stand up against animal cruelty and officers who break the law and expect to get away with it.

Members of Congress are living off food stamps for a week to protest Republican cuts. It’s a challenge for them, but GOP cuts would hurt millions of everyday Americans.
Why does this not have more publicity. This needs it!

Well ok Kesha, maybe it’s because you’re an auto tuned peice of shit who shouldn’t be famous, you have no Buisness being in the music industry, it’s not even your music you fuck, someone else wrote it for you to record and them to auto tune yourself. And it’s not at all good . It’s not positive either. So complain some more.
I don’t know if you know this, tumblr user koolkidseatgreens, but Ke$ha is a certified genius. She has an IQ over 140 and an SAT score of 1500. When she was younger she would go to the library and do research for fun. Ke$ha is a both feminist and an advocate for equal marriage/rights for people of any sexuality, being a queer woman herself.
Ke$ha is a smart, professional woman, and just because she sings songs about wanting to let loose and have fun every once in a while doesn’t make her a piece of shit.
Ke$ha’s songs are meant to point out the sexism in our media. She treats men the same way many men in the music industry treat women, and she is hated on for it. Relentlessly. She sings on multiple occasions about taking charge in a sexual relationship, of how she only uses men for their body parts. She sexualizes men to make them uncomfortable. She sexualizes men for a reaction, so that people can both see why women are so uncomfortable with their sexualization and also to point out the inequality between the sexes both in the media and in the world at large.
She is judged so harshly for singing about things that make many men famous.
If you listen to Ke$ha’s deconstructed album you will see that she actually has some talent, which may be hard to hear because she does in fact use a fair amount of autotune. This is because of her genre and because of the kind of music she chooses to create as an artist. Ke$ha may not write her songs, but this doesn’t meant she isn’t a good artist or a good person. This doesn’t mean she deserves your harsh words. Some singers are good at writing, but that’s hardly a requirement. Last time I checked whether or not you can sing has nothing to do with whether or not you’re a poet.
You should not be calling anyone a piece of shit, my friend, especially someone you’ve never sat down and had a conversation (or even taken the time to wonder about her feelings!), but if anyone deserves that kind of language it’s not Ke$ha.
You may think that by shaming women for expressing their sexuality and having fun every once in a while, that you are somehow abolishing sexism. That in weeding out the less ‘deserving’ women you are gaining our sex more respect. This is not the case, and the fact that you and many others feel such a strong need to shame this woman who has done nothing wrong, especially not to you, shows that we still have a very far away to go.

So hey let’s talk about an awesome comics dude who deserves more attention. Blastoff is a shop that just opened in the fall right around the corner from my favourite little hipster coffee shop that I live in on the weekends, so it’s become entirely too easy for me to drop my disposable income for the week there and spend the rest of the day lounging on couches at Republic of Pie and reading comics (If you’re anywhere near NoHo, I promise it’s a pretty great way to spend a hot summer day. Or a cold winter one. Or really, any time you feel like coffee, pie and comics, but I digress)
The store is bright and inviting, everything is accessible, a bunch of the shelves are organized by genre and writer instead of strictly by company so you don’t need to know what you’re looking for to browse and find something you might want to read. They also give a ton of shelf space to things that aren’t strictly big name Marvel and DC cape stuff. In fact, the first stuff you see when you walk in is a wall of inviting small press and independent stuff laid out neatly with with the covers on display and a kid’s section full of everything from Adventure Time and My Little Pony trades to Bone and Usagi, furnished with a table and fancy little regal leather chairs for kids to sit at and read.
I was fortunate enough to be there a couple weeks ago when a dad brought his little five year old son in to get him his first comic. The Owner/ manager/ man behind the counter Jud Meyers was super committed to finding this kid something he could get excited about, taking him through the kid’s section and letting him look through things, asking him who his favourite heroes were (which netted the amusing response of “Michael Meyers” and made his dad look embarrassed) and when they found the comic that he wanted, he gave him one copy in a bag with a board so he could “know what it feels like to be a real collector” and an extra copy for free to have all the destructive fun a five year old could possibly want with a comic book. And this wasn’t an unusual special occasion thing, I was looking up the shop to find out more about it and ran into this interview he did on free comic book day
Although free comics will be given away all day, shop owner and dealer Jud Meyers told Patch last year that he makes sure all year long that no kid leaves his business without a complimentary issue.
“I have more comics than I can possibly ever do anything with in a lifetime. I’m giving them away,” he said. “In my store, no child ever walks out without a comic book.”
This is the kind of retailer the comics industry needs, and it’s why I go out of my way to support brick and mortar stores even though Amazon is usually a faster and cheaper alternative. We need these people excited about the industry and excited to pass on their hobby to people who don’t have enough experience to know what they’re looking for. People who are just a walking encycopedia of comics know-how who want to introduce people to new books they don’t know they’ll enjoy yet.
If you’re in the NoHo/Burbank/Sherman Oaks area I strongly suggest checking the store out, but even if you aren’t you can follow Jud on twitter or keep up with their vintage comics blog. Jud also did an interview about his approach to selling comics and his Eisner Spirit of Retail award over here on youtube that’s super uplifting and worth watching. They also donate a portion of their proceeds every month to a different charity, which you can keep up with on their website.
